RECYCLING AT HOME
The North Devon Council Household Recycling Collection Contract is
to end with SMR on Friday 2nd May, with the Council taking over the
service from that date. SMR would like to thank all of the residents
of North Devon for supporting us over the last 17 years and making
Recycling such a success.
SMR will continue working in Partnership with Torridge District Council
to increase household recycling rates and hopes that TDC residents
will continue to be as supportive as they have always been.

Some areas, as part of the CRED Bid Lottery Funding trial, have
a cardboard collection and have a brown bag in which to place their
cardboard.
Your recycling boxes and bags are emptied every week by our recycling
crews with each material being sorted into specially designed kerbside
recycling vehicles.
We operate a source separated collection method which means that
in order to recycle everything you give us, we store each material
separately. Cans into the can cage, plastic into the plastic cage
and so on. We don't want the paper you give us being contaminated
with shards of glass or getting wet, this is why we ask you to sort
your recycling into the box and bag for us.
After your recycling has been collected it is transported back
to our Materials Storage Depot. Here the trucks are offloaded and
each material is stored ready to be sent for recycling.
SMR is committed to sustainable recycling practices and producing
the highest quality materials for reprocessing by operating a kerbside
sort to vehicle operation (segregating materials at the kerbside
and keeping them separated on the vehicle).
SMR started collecting recyclable materials from North Devon and
Torridge from the early nineties when recycling wasn't popular
or part of government regulations. We continued to increase the
materials collected and the area covered year on year.
In 2004 SMR won CRED funding which allowed us to extend the service
to 100% coverage. Until 5th May 2008 South Molton Recycle offers
the service to almost 100% of North Devon and Torridge District Council
areas, and thereafter only to all Torridge District Council areas.
